In an article titled, Wave Bye Bye to Damaged Hair,” Web MD looks at the benefits of using essential oils to improve the appearance of your hair, explaining that our love of freshly shampooed hair accompanied by the use (and over-use) of shampoos and blow drying can leave hair damaged, dry, and unruly.

The article states: “Over time, this ritual depletes your hair’s nourishing oils. Essential oils may be the rescue you’re looking for. Using them as part of your hair care routine can breathe new life and  luster into your hair. Essential oils also infuse your hair with a burst of fragrance.”

Recommending specific essential oils for shine and moisture, including rosemary, clary sage, lavender, and geranium, as well as others, the article also reminds you to:

  • Use only a few drops of an essential oil mixed with a carrier oil.
  • Never use the oils in higher than recommended amounts.
  • Shampoo the oils thoroughly from your hair, so that residual oils do not weigh down your hair.
